Lodgement of an EIA Report and Public Consultation for Spanish Lookout Community Corporation Ltd.

For a proposed farming development located near Runaway Creek and Sibun River along the Coastal Highway, Belize District

The General Public is hereby advised that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for a proposed farming development located near Runaway Creek and Sibun River along the Coastal Highway in the Belize District, has been submitted to the Department of the Environment (DOE) on behalf of Spanish Lookout Community Corporation Ltd. While the EIA report is a technical document, it contains an executive summary which provides an overview of the project and its potential environmental impacts. The EIA report will be reviewed by the National Environmental Appraisal Committee (NEAC) before a final decision is taken by the DOE.

The general public is also informed that the EIA report is available for public review, free of charge, from June 2nd to June 24th, 2025 (Monday- Friday) during normal working hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm) at the following locations:

  1. Mahogany Heights Healthcare Post
  2. The DOE’s office at 7552 Hummingbird Highway, Belmopan.
  3. Leo Bradley Library in Belize City
  4. La Democracia Community Center (9:00AM to 4:00PM)

The public is invited to submit their comments in writing on or before June 24th 2025, to the DOE Office in Belmopan or email: envirodept@environment.gov.bz; eiaunit@environment.gov.bz, and link: https://forms.gle/FA5eQWVvJJgcKBGQ8.

Kindly be informed that a hybrid (in-person and virtual) public consultation for the EIA report will be held on June 19th 2025 commencing at 6:00 pm. The in-person consultation will be held at the Mahogany Heights Healthcare Post, Belize District and an online link will be provided near to the date for those who will participate virtually, via the DOE’s Facebook Page. The consultation will also be streamed live via the Government of Belize Press Office Facebook Page.

The General Public is invited to attend in person or participate online, to make comments, ask questions, seek clarification, and/or provide input regarding this proposed project.
